Seven new iPads confirmed

A Russian certification just revealed Apple's hand. The titan of tech will soon reveal seven new iPads.

Seven tablets, no further details

Almost nothing is confirmed. Only two things are made clear in the certification. These new Apple tablets, scheduled for release in autumn, currently go under the following names.

  • A2068
  • A2198
  • A2230
  • A2197
  • A2228
  • A2200
  • A2232

These are in-house names. Every Apple gadget you've got has its very own secret name just like these. There isn't any codified logic behind them. These model numbers appear on two certifications, three on one, two on the other. Both certifications describe the devices as «tablet computers». The software will be iPad OS 13. Currently, they're confirmed for release in Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

One can certainly speculate:

The number seven is weird, however. Usually iPads always appear in even numbers. Each iPad has a version with SIM card capabilities and one without cellular functions. Of course, Apple could just be registering these two iPad versions under the same model number.

Wishing for a redesign

Here's where David Phelan starts speculating. He guesses that the cheaper iPads will receive a design update. This will only apply to tablets that still go under the bare «iPad» label. Maybe to iPad Airs and Minis as well.

According to Phelan, their design has slowly become stale. A redesign with smaller edges is necessary. Apple proved that this can work with the new and improved iPad Pro.

Last year, with all colour variants and cellular versions included, Apple released 26 iPads. Maybe next year's update will manage to increase this humungous figure above 30.

Apple hasn't addressed these certifications publically.
