Samsung lets Exynos 2200 presentation pass by
Samsung wanted to present the chip of the new Galaxy S smartphones. However, the presentation did not take place. Leakers suspect that the Galaxy S22 might get a Snapdragon chip instead.
Samsung wanted to present the new, in-house smartphone chip Exynos 2200 on January 11. This is supposed to power the upcoming Galaxy S22 lineup. However, that did not happen. The Korean tech giant let the previously announced date pass without comment.
Instead, leakers and the tech press immediately spoke up. Even before the day was over, industry insider Ice Universe tweeted that Samsung had postponed the launch. The company had reminded of the upcoming event on Twitter nine days earlier.
Snapdragon for Galaxy S22?
Leaker Dohyun Kim even claims that the Exynos 2200 will not be installed in the S22 line. The new flagships of the Korean company are supposed to be completely equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors.
However, we will only know if this prediction is true when the new Galaxy S line is unveiled. This is coming up soon. If Samsung sticks to the previous launch rhythm, the Galaxy S22 line is expected sometime between January and March.
Predecessor chip unpopular
The fact that the Galaxy S22 could be launched without an Exynos chip should please many Samsung fans. The in-house chip is not particularly popular. That's because its performance doesn't come close to Qualcomm's. A fact that numerous benchmark tests have confirmed.
Samsung follows a dual strategy when it comes to smartphone processors. While certain parts of the world get Galaxy models with Snapdragon chips, the models in other parts are equipped with Exynos processors. For example, only the US, Canada, Japan and China got a Snapdragon 888 in the Galaxy S21 models. All other countries got the device with the 2200's predecessor, the Exynos 2100.
