digitec plays "Farming Simulator 19": Are you still mowing or already watering?
by Philipp Rüegg
In "Planet Zoo" you build and manage your own zoo. You alone are responsible for the well-being of animals and humans. Together with Zurich Zoo, I test how much realism there is in the game. The stream starts on Thursday at 13:30.
"Planet Zoo" is complex. And it really is. To manage your zoo efficiently, you have to keep an eye on countless systems. A sophisticated simulation works in the background and ensures that you, as the zoo director, never get to rest. Have you placed the right plants, from the right region, in the right quantity and in the right enclosure? Do the bonobos have enough entertainment or is the overpopulation causing them to escape again? Is the hippo sick because it has caught a virus? And is the balloon seller selling the right colour balloons for maximum profit?
The incredibly cuddly and detailed animated animals ensure that the roof doesn't fall on your head during all the tasks. You can marvel at them up close as they play with each other, lick a frozen blood pumpkin or pick the lice out of their fur. "Planet Zoo" is a feast for the eyes in every respect.
But perhaps I'm letting myself be dazzled by the pretty animations. How much simulation is actually in "Planet Zoo"? To answer this question, Dominik Ryser, Head of Communications at Zurich Zoo, accompanies me on a virtual walk through my zoo.
"Planet Zoo" is available for PC.

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
