Smart power for old lights and more atmosphere: Philips Hue brings new modules for flush-mounted boxes and expands the "Play" series for your entertainment zones.

You can now buy new devices for your smart lighting from Philips Hue. The "Play" series for your entertainment area is expanding, and new wall switch modules will also make your existing lights smart.

Wall switch modules make dumb lamps smart

Hue has been offering a battery-powered wall switch module for five years. It works like a remote control for your smart lights and sends signals to the Bridge. However, this model does not directly switch the power circuit, so it does not control third-party light sources. This changes now with the new module.

You install the new variants in the circuit between the switch and the lamp to control the power flow to the lamp. This means: The new battery-free wall switch modules make your old, conventional lamps smart. The switch on the wall now only functions as a control input for the Hue module.

Attention: Since the module actively switches power, it must be connected to a neutral conductor. In many old buildings, neutral conductors are missing in the switch boxes. You should check this before buying. You should also hire an electrician for installation, as improper tinkering with power lines is very dangerous.

The wall switch module is available from us as a single-channel variant for simple switches, for two channels (i.e. double switches), and as a dimming module for dimmable (!) conventional lamps.

The wall switch modules do not support Bluetooth. You therefore absolutely need a Hue Bridge. With the new Bridge Pro, the modules offer you another advantage: They can be used as a sensor for "Motion Aware". This is a feature of the Bridge Pro that turns suitable Zigbee devices into motion sensors.

"Play" table and floor lamp

The "Play" series is specifically designed for your entertainment areas. The devices are Chromasync-capable and are therefore suitable for synchronization with your TV, computer monitor, and music. To do this, you connect them to the "HDMI Sync Box" or control the synchronization via the TV app.

Two new light bars are available: They are now available in 50 centimeters height for the table or TV bench and as a 135-centimeter variant for the floor. The table lamp offers up to 455 lumens, the floor lamp up to 1060 lumens.

Both are used for indirect lighting. This allows you to cast colorful colors on the wall and create different moods through the so-called wall-washing effect. Thanks to numerous tiny LEDs in the RGBWWIC composite, the colors flow smoothly into each other, creating harmonious color gradients.

You can combine several "Play" lights, for example for both sides of your screen. Up to ten compatible lights can be grouped into an entertainment area and synchronized.

The two lights are similar to the "Signe" light bars, but are designed as effect lamps for smaller areas. They consist predominantly of plastic. The "Signe" room lights are brighter and appear more high-quality with their aluminum body.
