The robot uses hot steam for better cleaning and, thanks to the mop roller cover, is also suitable for high-pile carpets.

In September, iRobot unveiled its new flagship robot vacuum and mop at IFA: the Roomba Max 875 Combo. It offers numerous premium-class features, including LiDAR navigation with AI-powered object recognition and a mopping roller that is continuously moistened with warm water. A service station prepares the robot for its next cleaning cycle.

A special feature is the so-called «ThermaMist» technology: while mopping, the robot sprays a 60-degree Celsius warm mist onto the floor. This is intended to soften stubborn stains before the Roomba passes over them with its mopping roller. If the Roomba detects carpet, it lifts the mopping roller and covers it with a plastic flap, keeping the carpet dry and the roller clean.

How the Roomba cleans floors and carpets

The mopping roller rotates at up to 300 revolutions per minute, picking up dirt from the floor. The dirty water is discharged directly into the wastewater tank, while the roller is treated with fresh, 60-degree warm water. Unlike horizontally rotating mopping pads, this is designed to prevent the roller from spreading dirt further across the floor.

The contact pressure of the mopping roller is 18 Newtons, which corresponds to a weight of about 1.8 kilograms. For better edge cleaning, the Roomba can extend it laterally by up to 45 millimeters.

When vacuuming, the manufacturer states the robot reaches a suction power of up to 35,000 Pascals. While this value alone cannot indicate how efficiently the airflow is directed and dirt is removed, the Roomba is still in the upper range. According to iRobot, the suction channel is specially sealed for better suction power to create a higher vacuum on carpets. The main brush is designed to cut through long hair during suction to prevent tangling.

Service station: up to 90 days without maintenance

The docking station empties the robot's dust and wastewater containers. Its dust bag holds 2.5 liters, and the wastewater tank holds 3.3 liters. The mopping roller is then rinsed with 80-degree warm water from the four-liter fresh water tank and dried in a 55-degree warm air stream.

The docking station is designed to remain operational for up to 90 days without you having to worry about it. However, the actual duration depends heavily on the size of the apartment, the frequency of cleaning, and the cleaning settings.

According to the manufacturer, the Roomba Max 875 Combo can overcome door thresholds up to 35 millimeters high. It is 9.98 centimeters tall and has a diameter of around 36 centimeters. The dock measures 50 × 35 × 47.5 centimeters (L × W × H). In addition to the robot and the station, the scope of delivery includes an additional side brush, a dirt bag, a replacement filter, and a 280-milliliter bottle of cleaning concentrate.
