The latest version of the "QuietComfort Ultra" headphones should provide even better protection against ambient noise. Bose promises longer battery life and a more spacious sound.

You're sitting on the train and the conversation of your fellow travellers gets louder. Or the clacking of a keyboard annoys you in an open-plan office. In moments like these, headphones with active noise cancellation can make all the difference. Bose is updating its premium series with the «QuietComfort Ultra Headphones». The promise of the second generation of over_ears: stronger ANC, longer battery life, more comfort.

Design and suitability for everyday use

Little has changed in terms of the familiar design: closed ear cups, soft padding, adjustable headband. The headphones sit around the ear and provide passive shielding. There is also on-head detection, which automatically stops playback as soon as you put the headphones down. There is a cinema mode for films, which is designed to enhance the spatial sound impression.

Technology and features

The centrepiece remains the active noise cancellation. Four external and one internal microphone work per ear cup. The ten microphones constantly measure ambient noise and adjust the Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) in real time. When making calls, they filter out voices better, which should ensure clearer conversations.

In addition to classic stereo, Bose offers «Immersive Audio», which creates a spatial sound image. The connection runs via Bluetooth with multipoint support. A2DP, HFP and AVRCP are on board as Bluetooth profiles, with a range of around ten metres. You can control the headphones either via switches directly on the ear cups or via the Bose app.

Battery and charging

According to Bose, the battery promises up to 30 hours of battery life. It is fully charged again in around three hours via USB-C. A 2.5 to 3.5 millimetre cable is included for emergencies. A hard case is also included to protect the headphones when travelling.
