Now available: Huawei Watch Fit 5 and Watch Fit 5 Pro
With the Watch Fit 5, Huawei brings a technical upgrade to the wrist, which is characterised above all by a brighter display and extended health functions. The Pro model also scores points with sapphire glass and an integrated ECG function.
With the Watch Fit 5, Huawei's fitness watch series enters the next round. In addition to the standard version, there is also a Pro version with slightly better hardware and more functions.
Both models have a rectangular display with softly rounded corners. The AMOLED screen of the standard watch has a diagonal of 1.82 inches. It has a brightness of up to 2500 nits. The Pro version has a sapphire crystal-protected LTPO display and is slightly larger and brighter at 1.92 inches and 3000 nits peak brightness. The resolution of both watches is 480 × 408 pixels.

The standard version is now available in black and white. The purple colour will be available from 18 May.
Health tracking and improved well-being
Huawei says it has improved sleep tracking. The algorithm should now provide deeper insights into your sleep. The watch also tracks your heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), skin temperature and the number of steps you take. It automatically calculates how many calories you burn through activity.
The Pro model also has an ECG function on board. It can also analyse arterial stiffness and give you indications of potential heart problems such as atrial fibrillation and arrhythmia.
Mini workouts are designed to help you improve your everyday well-being. A cute panda guides you through small exercises that you can do on the side and even while sitting down. If you stick to it, you will unlock goodies such as new backgrounds for the watch.
The watch should also be able to recognise your stress level and emotional fluctuations. According to Huawei, the device uses the measured parameters to differentiate between twelve emotional states, such as «worried», «focused» and «self-confident». If in doubt, you will have to judge for yourself how reliably this works.
Huawei Watch Fit 5 Pro
The black Pro model will be available from 18 May. The Watch Fit 5 Pro will be available in white from 7 June and in orange from 14 June. My colleague Jan is currently putting the Pro version through its paces. His report will appear in the magazine shortly.
Fitness and smart functions
According to Huawei, the fitness tracker is capable of more than 100 indoor and outdoor sports, including running, cycling and swimming as well as less common sports such as dragon boating, golf and triathlon. When running and cycling outdoors, the watch automatically recognises breaks in training and pauses and resumes tracking accordingly. According to the manufacturer, the watch recognises falls and then automatically makes an emergency call.
When it comes to smart functions, Android users enjoy a little more convenience: In conjunction with an Android, you can reply to messages and use a voice assistant. With an iPhone, the watch at least shows you messages, calls and notifications.
Up to ten days of battery life
Huawei promises that a single charge lasts up to ten days when used sparingly. With typical use including training, the battery lasts for up to seven days. The aluminium housing is 9.5 millimetres thick and weighs 28 grammes in the standard version and 32 grammes in the Pro model.
