Microsoft shows "Age of Empires 4" and xCloud at X019

Microsoft dropped two bombshells at X019 in London. In addition to a first minute of gameplay from "Age of Empires 4", the tech giant also showed off its new streaming service xCloud. There was no news about the Xbox Scarlett.

After all the studio acquisitions in recent months, Xbox fans and gamers were expecting big things from X019. At the Xbox show in London, which Microsoft itself has billed as "a global celebration of all things Xbox", the software and hardware giant from the USA presents its latest games and other projects. This time, the biggest wows were the first gameplay trailer for "Age of Empires 4" and the xCloud streaming service.

A first minute from "Age of Empires 4"

The wait is finally over! At Gamescom in late summer 2017, AoE 4 was teased with a pompous, yet meaningless trailer full of drawings. Then it became dead quiet around the strategy blockbuster par excellence. The X019 teaser brings movement into the game. An eagle flying over a forest and revealing an English fortress. Behind thick medieval walls, farmers, bakers and vendors go about their work, while soldiers patrol the streets. As Mongol cries ring out from a hill, the knights arm themselves and throw themselves into battle for the united kingdom.

The teaser doesn't show much more. In my opinion, that's not necessary. I'm a big strategy game fan and after the Gamescom 2017 teaser, I prayed every night to finally see some gameplay. My prayers have been answered and I'm over the moon. In addition, the revised version of AoE 2, "Age of Empires 2: Definite Edition", was presented, which is now available on Steam and Co. It is not yet clear when "Age of Empires 4" will be released. The game is expected to be released at the end of 2020 or later.

More games from the X019

I'm not listing all the games that were presented here, just my favourites. You can find the complete stream of X019 with all the new titles, further news and information here

Microsoft Flight Simulator

The latest Flight Simulator trailer doesn't show much that's new. And yet you have to see it: The graphics are breathtaking. The flight simulator uses a petabyte-sized database to make the cities and landscapes as beautiful and detailed as possible.

The release date is still unknown, but is expected to be sometime in 2020.

Wasteland 3

The video shows a snowy landscape around Colorado, USA. A team of desert rangers sets off in search of a lost comrade. It shows battle scenes, lots and fellow sufferers in their camps. There is no shortage of blood and gruesome memorials either. The preview of this RPG, which is set in 1987, definitely whets the appetite for more.

In the video itself, the release date of 19 May 2020 was shown.

Halo: Reach

The prequel to "Halo: Combat Evolved" is the fifth game in the Halo series. The PC version will feature many new features compared to the 2010 original: UHD resolution, more than 60 fps and native mouse and keyboard support.

Halo fans need to make a note of 3 December 2019 - that's when the game will be released.

Grounded

Obsidian presents a cute survival game: As shrunken children in your own huge backyard, you fight against hunger, thirst and cold. However, thanks to the cute graphics and the teenagers as the main characters, the whole thing doesn't feel like a naked fight for survival, but more like a fun afternoon in an oversized sandpit with friends.

Microsoft has announced a release date of spring 2020, available on Steam Early Access and Game Pass.

From next year, you will be able to play Game Pass games on a tablet or mobile, or stream them on a laptop. The game streaming service, which Microsoft is currently still fine-tuning, is comparable to Google Stadia and is already available as a preview version for Android phones - an iOS version is set to follow. The whole thing runs under the project name xCloud and should also be available for Windows PCs in 2020.
