Huawei vs. USA: Will ARM bring Huawei down?
by Dominik Bärlocher
Kirin OS, Hongmeng OS or something completely different? Rumours are swirling around the operating system from Huawei. Now a magazine believes it has a release date.
The independent Chinese finance magazine 财经 - pinyin "Caijing", translated "finance and business magazine" - reported a few minutes ago that the operating system from Huawei will be launched "in autumn or spring at the latest".
In a post on the Chinese social network Sina Weibo, the magazine refers to a statement by Yu Chengdong, aka Richard Yu, Huawei's CEO of the Consumer Electronics Division. He goes on to say that the operating system should be compatible with Android apps. However, if the Android app is recompiled, the performance of the apps should be able to be increased by over 60%.
The as yet unnamed operating system is based on a "future-orientated microkernel" and should run on all devices: Mobile phones, computers, tablets, televisions, cars, wearables and is said to be fully android compatible.

【Yu Chengdong: #HuaweiOS will be launched in autumn】Consumer Electronics CEO Yu Chengdong said today that the next-generation technology, the fastest operating system, will be available in autumn or spring next year at the latest. The system is open to mobile phones, computers, tablets, TVs, cars and wearable smart devices, unified into one operating system that is compatible with all Android apps and web applications. When the Android app is recompiled, the performance of the app on the future-oriented microkernel is improved by 60%.
The news that Huawei's operating system will be released in autumn or spring is currently an isolated report from a single source. Caijing is considered reliable, but there are no reports that confirm Richard Yu's statements. On the Caijing website, there is no report to support the post at first glance.
The Google Watch blog 9to5Google refers to the magazine The Information in an article. It states that the Huawei OS is internally called "Project Z" and that it is a long way from being released.
The project's focus has always been the domestic market, where Huawei hopes its operating system will power all kinds of devices-from phones to wearables to appliances-when China moves to the next-generation 5G wireless network.
