In a few hours, Richard Yu, the CEO of Huawei, will present the P40 series. We know that. What we don’t know, is what that rumoured «One More Thing» could be. Watch the live stream today to find out.

The words «One More Thing» are a big deal in the world of smartphones. Apple CEO Steve Jobs uttered them in 2007 before changing the world by introducing the first iPhone. In other words, when a manufacturer says «One More Thing», they know exactly what they’re saying.

Huawei has announced a «One More Thing».

A smartwatch? A folding mobile phone?

Neither insiders nor the media know exactly what we can expect. And the rumour mill isn’t fixated on one thing either. Normally, there are leaks and assumptions that prove to be right over time. But not this time. This time, we only know that there will be one more thing. And assumptions are what they are.

The mobile scene is puzzling about a smartwatch. But that couldn’t really be the «One More Thing», right? After all, smartwatches aren’t that important in the context of technology. They’re a niche product and quite cool when they’re well done, but are they worthy of a «One More Thing» status? And if this is supposed to be the big surprise, why did Huawei post a promotional video for the Huawei Watch GT 2e a week ago?

Then there’s the rumour that a folding mobile is what might be coming. This theory had reason to exist but then the Mate Xs was released a few days ago. Since that release, people are talking about a possible clamshell phone.

Google? The «app gary»?

Or maybe it’s a software solution. After Huawei was put on the US entity list last May, North American companies are no longer allowed to do business with Huawei. That’s why the P40 Pro doesn’t come with any Google Services.

In other words, the eyes of the world aren’t just looking at the hardware but also at the software. As far as Google is concerned, the US government may have granted an exception. If that is the case, nothing would be standing in the way of Google's return and Huawei could develop its own app gallery – or «app gary», as CEO Richard Yu likes to pronounce it – without any pressure.

Speaking of app gary. There’s a rumour that something’s in the pipeline. Maybe a complete makeover? An approximation to the Google model minus the annoying screen? A web end?

The mobile scene has no idea. The insiders have no idea. The only person who does is Richard Yu. And he’ll be speaking today from 2 p.m. via the live stream. What I can promise you now: the live stream will be followed by a first hands-on of a newly introduced phone.
