Looking for an active wallpaper that isn’t one of Apple’s soulless animations? Then you’re in luck! Social media pro and anime fan Miona Zagoricnik is here to show you how to set up your own live wallpaper using TikTok.

iPhone users currently only have one choice: endlessly billowing clouds of smoke in garish magenta or kitschy turquoise. How about a flowing glittery liquid? Or those neon dancing polar lights.

Yes, they’re all animated wallpapers for smartphones – or live wallpapers. We’ve been able to decorate our smartphone lock screens with them since the mid-2010s. Nevertheless, the selection – especially on iOS – isn’t particularly astounding.

Miona Zagoricnik, our social media editor, thinks that’s a shame: «I’m a big anime fan, and I much prefer having a relaxing sequence from some anime on my lock screen. I quickly found what I was looking for on TikTok.»

She’s here to remedy this dire situation and show you how to set your favourite movie characters, anime clips or aesthetic image sequences as dynamic backgrounds on your iPhone. However, the trick works just as well on Android.

Your work is done – now you can lock your phone and immediately bring your wallpaper to life. If you hold down a little longer on the lock screen, your background should start dancing.

Did it work?

«I want it all! The terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles!» – these words spoken by an iconic American TV celebrity could have been mine. It's a take on life I also apply to my job. What does this mean in concrete terms? That every story has its charm; no matter how small, large, exciting or trivial. The more eclectic the mix, the better.
