Everything you need to know about the "GTA 6" leak
For the second time, 'GTA 6' video material has leaked on the internet. The current case is significantly more important than the one four years ago. While publisher Take-Two is attempting to track down the leaker or leakers with full force using DMCA takedown requests, they continue to release new videos.
On August 18, an unknown source under the pseudonym «Cyberleek» released video footage of «GTA 6». It shows various scenes with the two protagonists, Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, doing things typical of «GTA 6». According to their own claims, Cyberleak has a playable version, though likely not the complete game, as was claimed in the meantime. Even though it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish real gameplay from AI clips, the length and level of detail in the videos suggest they are genuine. Otherwise, publisher Take-Two would likely not be taking such rigorous action against the leaker(s).
Legal action against Discord, Microsoft, Google, and X
The parent company behind the developer studio Rockstar is now taking legal action. As reported by the site Torrentfreak, Take-Two has filed four DMCA subpoenas against Discord, Microsoft, X, and Google in a US federal court. The request against Discord is particularly far-reaching: the communication platform is expected to hand over the data of all accounts that have communicated with three specific Discord servers since June 1. This would also affect individuals who have nothing to do with the leak. According to Tom’s Hardware, Take-Two is demanding, among other things, Windows device IDs, IP addresses, phone numbers, linked Google and Xbox accounts, and OneDrive content from Microsoft, X, and Google.
According to Torrentfreak, the court has signed the necessary documents for the measures, but user data has not yet been identified.
Manifesto and memecoins
A massive «GTA 6» leak occurred four years ago. A group under the name «Lapsus$», whose targets also included Uber and Nvidia, released over 90 videos. One of the main individuals responsible was an 18-year-old Briton at the time. In 2023, he was forcibly hospitalized for an indefinite period due to mental health issues and a high risk of recidivism.
While the 2022 leak showed scenes from an early development version, the current gameplay videos are more in line with the finished version. This is likely to particularly annoy developer Rockstar and publisher Take-Two, as the launch is so close. Not only that, but the big official deep dive on Netflix is coming up this Thursday. The first official gameplay scenes are expected there. This event is being overshadowed by current events.

Cyberleak justifies the leaks as a reaction to Rockstar's decision to sell «GTA 6» without a physical disc. Three commandments are set out in a manifesto. Anyone who breaks them becomes a target for Cyberleaks. Digital pre-orders, paid add-ons that only unlock single-player material, and the loss of single-player content when servers are shut down are condemned.
Users were able to buy memecoins via the Cyberleaks website to support the project and vote for further leaks. The site and its associated channels are now offline. However, the leaks have not stopped.
