Disney+ will be launched in Europe at the end of March. This is not news. What is new, however, is that the start date has been brought forward and is now officially valid for Switzerland. Full details of the subscription price and devices supported are available here.

Disney has announced in a press release that it has brought forward the launch date of its streaming service for Europe - including Switzerland - to 24 March 2020, a little earlier than expected.

The price is no longer a secret either: in Switzerland, Disney+ will cost CHF9.90 per month or CHF99 per year.

Disney fans will have something to look forward to: all the classics that Walt Disney Corp. has preserved in its bunker - the famous Disney Vault - will be available on the streaming service. Added to this is almost all the content from the Disney Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic brands.

Supported devices and resolution

Subscribers will be able to experience Disney+ on virtually all mobile devices, games consoles and connected TVs thanks to the official dedicated app.

  • Apple (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Apple TV)
  • Google (Android smartphones and tablets, Android TV devices and Google Chromecast)
  • Microsoft (Xbox One)
  • Sony (PlayStation 4 and Smart TV devices)
  • Amazon Fire
  • LG
  • Samsung

Support for other devices and connected TVs is planned.

In addition, a more expensive additional subscription to enable UHD resolution will not be required. Much content - including that produced exclusively for the streaming service and dubbed "Disney+ Originals" - will be available in Dolby Vision quality and will support Dolby Atmos sound.

According to a release, up to seven profiles can be created from a single account, usable on up to four devices simultaneously. Parents will also be able to create profiles for their children on which to offer tailored content. All content will be downloadable and viewable offline, for an unlimited time and on up to ten devices.

Films and series rated R - the equivalent of our "under 16" - will not be available on Disney+. This content will be shown in the US on Hulu, Disney's other streaming service. The latter is not available in Europe, so its content will be distributed on Netflix and co.

I'm an outdoorsy guy and enjoy sports that push me to the limit – now that’s what I call comfort zone! But I'm also about curling up in an armchair with books about ugly intrigue and sinister kingkillers. Being an avid cinema-goer, I’ve been known to rave about film scores for hours on end. I’ve always wanted to say: «I am Groot.»
