Once again, the gaming industry is showing its ugliest side. In recent weeks, numerous allegations of harassment and abuse in and around the gaming scene have come to light. Together with two female game developers, we try to get to the bottom of the topic.
Whether on Twitch, in game studios like Ubisoft or at game tournaments: Allegations of sexual harassment, assault and abuse are currently on the rise in all corners of the industry. The victims are mostly women, the accused mostly men. This is not the first time that the gaming industry has been in turmoil. Since the #METOO movement at the latest, there have been regular waves of revelations. The most recent one is probably the biggest yet. Simon and I discuss this complex topic with two game designers, Tabea Iseli and Alice Ruppert. Alice works at Airconsole and has her own blog called Mane Quest, which focuses on horses in games. Tabea has founded her own studio, Stardust, and is currently developing the puzzle game "AVA".
