digitec plays: We play SBB boss in "Transport Fever 2"
"Why is my train late again?". Picking on SBB is a popular sport. Can we do better? Watch the "Transport Fever 2" stream for yourself.
The Swiss developers from Urban Games have made a name for themselves with "Train Fever" and its successor "Transport Fever". With "Transport Fever 2", they are now presenting the logical next step. There's more of everything and lots of new features. However, the basic principle of the game remains the same. As a transport company, we have to transport goods and people to earn money. You have little influence on the economy. You can build roads and railway lines, but not factories and houses. As a pure service provider for the factories, shops and inhabitants of the region, you make money.

From the Wild West to the modern age
In the new campaign, you have to prove your skills in three eras around the world. It starts with carriages in the Wild West and ends with high-speed trains in Asia. The side missions, which follow a story, are particularly amusing. A train driver is kidnapped by supposed cannibals in Indonesia, for example, or you become a virtual Patty Boser in Mexico and not only matchmake trains, but also men and women.
The heart of the game, however, is the freeplay mode, which leaves little to be desired. Randomly generated maps always offer new challenges. You can adjust the difficulty to suit your taste. It's up to you whether you start as a poor wretch or a multi-billionaire. The era is also up to you. Steam locomotives have just as much appeal as high-speed Shinkanzen trains.
I really like how modular everything is. You decide how many platforms your stations have, how long they are and how the passengers get onto the platform. The various bus and lorry lines, which goods are unloaded and loaded and how long a lorry should wait until it is loaded are all up to you. You can completely overdo the micromanagement. Between a well-oiled machine and total traffic collapse is often just one wrongly set one-way signal.

A head start thanks to workshop
The range of options and vehicles is already impressive. By road, rail, water or air, you can get your goods and people to their destination by any means. Thanks to the modding community, fun is guaranteed for years to come.
Sure, "Transport Fever" doesn't come close to the depth of "Cities Skyline". But it doesn't have to. It's much more the wet dream of every model railway fan and that's a lot of fun for me too.
We're playing part of the campaign today at 1.00 pm and will then channel our inner Andreas Meyer and build the railway network of the future. You can see whether it goes well (spoiler alert: not anyway) at "digitec plays".

We usually stream on Wednesdays on Youtube. You can also check out our Discord channel.
This is how we stream
When I flew the family nest over 15 years ago, I suddenly had to cook for myself. But it wasn’t long until this necessity became a virtue. Today, rattling those pots and pans is a fundamental part of my life. I’m a true foodie and devour everything from junk food to star-awarded cuisine. Literally. I eat way too fast.
