Apple macOS Monterey: Big Sur's successor

Apple's desktop operating system is moving closer to mobile operating systems. How? With the cloud and cross-device hardware.
The new version of the Mac operating system macOS is called macOS Monterey. It’s a step closer to Apple's mobile operating systems.
Universal Control: one keyboard for everything
Logitech has been able to do it for a while and Apple is following suit. If you have a keyboard, you can use it for your iPad as well as for your Macbook. But that's not all: if your iPad is next to your Macbook, you can drag content from one device to the other, use the mouse to click on the iPad and flip pages on the iPad with the mouse pad.
This works with more than two devices. Software and navigation interact seamlessly.
Safari gets extensions, also on the iPad and iPhone
Apple's own browser, Safari, has been revamped. Tabs are now next to the address bar and Tab Groups are introduced. The website you’re currently viewing is said to affect the colour scheme of your browser window.
Plus, extensions are not only available on the Mac, but are automatically added to your iPhone and iPad, too.
The rest: an overview
- The «AirPlay to Mac» option is available for AirPlay.
- Shortcuts are available on macOS. This can be used to automate things.
- Automator is replaced by shortcuts.
- Automator will only keep working for a few more years.
