Amazon gives green light to "God of War" series

The God of War Kratos is getting a TV series. In terms of content, it will draw primarily on the 2018 soft reboot. Showrunner will be an old Amazon acquaintance.
Amazon Prime Video is taking the plunge: a "God of War" series is coming. Already at the beginning of the year, there were rumours about a series adaptation of the award-winning hack-and-slay role-playing game. Well, the rumours have now come to an end. The American online shop and streaming giant has officially commissioned the series.
The "Wheel of Time" showrunner sets his sights on the 2018 game
Not too much is known yet. According to industry magazine The Hollywood Reporter, the series will focus primarily on the 2018 "God of War" soft reboot. In it, Kratos, the Greek god of war, has long since turned his back on his brutal and blood-soaked past: But when his beloved wife dies, Kratos embarks on a perilous journey with his estranged son to scatter her ashes from the highest peak - her final wish.
Serving as showrunner is an old acquaintance from Prime Video: Rafe Judkins. Judkins already worked as showrunner on the series adaptation of the eponymous fantasy epic "The Wheel of Time". He is assisted by Oscar nominees Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby ("Children of Men", "Iron Man", "The Expanse"). They slip into the roles of co-producers and co-writers. Amazon Studios is joined by Santa Monica Studios, Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions. This is to ensure that the adaptation is as faithful to the game as possible.

It is not clear from the announcement when the series can be expected at the earliest. However, similarly ambitious projects such as Amazon's "The Wheel of Time" and "The Rings of Power" or HBO's "The Last of Us" took three to six years between announcement and release. So a series launch should not be expected before 2025.
