AirPods with cable: the Swiss tinkerer has done it again

Ken Pillonel is known for giving Apple devices USB-C instead of Lightning connectors. This time he goes one step further: he turns the AirPods into wired headphones.
Since the batteries in his AirPods - probably the 2nd generation - only lasted half a minute, Ken Pillonel wanted to repair his headphones. But Apple, which is not known for selling repairable devices, threw a spanner in the works. The Swiss man couldn't find any new, trustworthy batteries and therefore had to improvise.
Without further ado, the former EPFL student attaches a cable to the AirPods. With USB-C, of course. Pillonel explains: "This is my most innovative project to date. I can't believe that no one has come up with this idea before me."
Future collaboration with digitec
A great and sustainable project to get your old headphones going again. Ken Pillonel and digitec are currently negotiating how this idea can be developed into a business model - digitec customers may soon be able to send in their AirPods with battery problems and have them fitted with a USB-C cable. Stay tuned - we'll keep you up to date.
Update 2 April: Joke's on you; the above article is an April Fool's joke. Pillonel wants to use the video to draw attention to the reparability and sustainability of electrical appliances.Cover picture: Ken Pillonel

Testing devices and gadgets is my thing. Some experiments lead to interesting insights, others to demolished phones. I’m hooked on series and can’t imagine life without Netflix. In summer, you’ll find me soaking up the sun by the lake or at a music festival.
