A Tech Affair episode 172: Windows and Arm, "Counter-Strike 2" debacle, "Five Nights at Freddy's"

Why is Microsoft pushing for the Arm chip breakthrough with the help of AMD and Nvidia? Why is "Counter-Strike 2" causing displeasure? How scary is the film version of "Five Nights at Freddy's"? And what's behind "Slay the Princess"? We discuss this and more in this episode.
Nvidia and AMD are said to be working on new chips based on the Arm architecture. Qualcomm has been working with Microsoft since 2016. The software giant wants to reduce its dependence on Intel and stand up to Apple.
The latest quarterly figures are also available from Microsoft. They provide an interesting insight into the Xbox business. We use this moment to talk about potential new editions of long-forgotten games. After all, the acquisition of Activision Blizzard has significantly expanded the portfolio.
Not forgotten, but a few years on the hump was "Counter-Strike GO". With the emphasis on "had", because Valve has replaced the game with "Counter-Strike 2", which doesn't please everyone. At the end of the news, we talk about the upcoming Apple event.
I watched "Five Nights at Freddy's", the film adaptation of the game series of the same name. There are surprisingly few jumpscares in it, but it certainly offers scary entertainment. This also applies to "The Omen" from 1976, which has aged surprisingly well in almost all respects.
"Slay the Princess" continues in a spooky vein. In this visual novel, you have to kill a princess to prevent the end of the world. The game tells a wonderfully weird and twisted story and creates eerie images despite the simple graphics. The Making of Karateka" is more relaxed and calm. It is a kind of virtual museum tour that miraculously turns the creation of the classic game into an experience.

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
