The online shops digitec.ch and galaxus.ch together form Digitec Galaxus AG.
digitec is Switzerland's online market leader in the fields of IT, consumer electronics and telecommunication. Galaxus is the largest Swiss online shop with a steadily growing range including categories such as “Home”, “DIY + Garden” and “Sports + Recreation”.
Galaxus and digitec provide access to a broad, extensive and well-maintained range of products. Consistently low and continually updated prices as well as fast and reliable online shops enable a unique and comfortable shopping experience – anywhere at any time. Customer focus is at the heart of everything we do. This means short delivery times, personal and competent customer service by phone, email and fax or at any of our nine retail stores as well as transparent and comprehensible communication.
Galaxus stands for our complete range and a whole new shopping experience – a department store universe that’s just a click away. So it’s no coincidence that the tortoise is our logo. In many ancient cultures, the animal is said to carry the whole world and even the universe on its back. It is also regarded as sturdy, reliable and clever. These are precisely the characteristics that describe Galaxus’ objective: To bring together a compact and competent universe of products in one place.
In April 2001, Oliver Herren, Florian Teuteberg and Marcel Dobler established the general partnership Nägeli Trading & Co. and created the first online shop www.digitec.ch. Right from the very beginning, the company operated under the brand name digitec. Even at the time, the aim was to offer customers a wide range of products, professional service and reliable support. An innovative spirit, low margins, efficient workflows and a modern infrastructure generated rapid growth right from the very start. The initial premises soon grew too small and several moves ensued; most recently to West-Park in Zurich’s industrial district 5. Following several renovations to expand the warehouse surface and to design the sales area, this is where digitec is now based. The general partnership was incorporated in January 2005 (digitec AG). At the end of October 2005, the new and even more innovative online shop was launched. In August 2006, the new central warehouse was moved to Kleindöttingen (Switzerland). However, just two and a half years later, the location had already become too small. This led to another move in the spring of 2009; to a logistics centre four times bigger than the previous warehouse and located in the industrial park of Ferrowohlen. With this, the strategy was continued: to offer customers the widest range possible directly from stock. In 2010, the digitec operators launched Galaxus, a new online shop with a broad product range including household items, toys and sports articles. In 2011, the warehouse surface area in Wohlen was expanded to 18,000m2 and the first store in Western Switzerland was opened in Lausanne. In the year that followed, further stores were established in Basel and Bern as well as in St. Gallen in May 2013. The third online shop, programmed entirely in-house, was launched in 2014. In the same year, digitec and Galaxus merged to form Galaxus (Switzerland). Today, the logistics centre spans a total area of 32,000m2. Together, Galaxus and digitec employ over 570 people.
In September 2015, the firm was renamed Digitec Galaxus AG so as to include both portals in the company name.
Digitec Galaxus has earned a number of awards for its entrepreneurial achievements:
