Test Report

Dual-Bay NAS tested

AS units with two hard disk slots offer a good compromise between storage capacity, data security and price in the home network. If the drives are configured in RAID 1 mode, the data is not lost if one of the two hard drives suddenly dies. All NAS drives in our comparison test are designed as multimedia storage devices and can provide photos, music and video files via DLNA server in the home network. Each device also offers an energy-saving mode, a scheduler for automatic shutdown of the NAS and a wake-on-LAN mode to restart the network hard drive when needed. Buffalo is the only manufacturer to offer its LinkStation LS520 with pre-installed HDDs rather than an empty case.
