Hello experienced M.2 freaks Can this 980 Pro M.2, be used as a Windows 10 Pro Boot SSD in an ASUS ROG STRIX Z590-F GAMING WIFI motherboard? My board has 4 x M.2 interfaces, but the first M.2 port can only transfer in PCI Express 4.0 mode when using an Intel i9 / 11 generation. According to the mainboard manual. However, there is not a single Samsung M.2 SSD in the list. Well, I use an i9 / 10 generation processor. The manual says that the first M.2 interface is automatically deactivated. So I could switch to the second M.2 interface, but is this 980 Pro backwards compatible with PCI Express 3.0 on this interface? Thank you very much!

Samsung Electronics GmbH
Hello,
Thank you for your enquiry.
To be able to use the full performance of the Samsung 980 PRO SSD, the M.2 slot should have PCIe 4.0 with 4 lanes.
However, the 980 PRO is also downward compatible with PCIe 3.0. Please note that the data transfer rate is reduced by half - depending on the hardware configuration, a maximum speed of up to 3900 MB/s is achieved here.
If in doubt, please enquire directly with the device manufacturer.
Kind regards from Schwalbach

Hello Robertange, my laptop also only supports PCI Express 3.0, and it works very well with it. Kind regards.
