Is the box compatible with PCIE 4.0 SSDs?
The current Kingston KC3000 2 TB (https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/kingston-kc3000-2048-gb-m2-2280-ssd-17274158) definitely does not work. Unfortunately, I had to test it myself (and buy another enclosure)...

Yes, my older "Samsung SM951 NVMe" (M.2 2280, M-Key, PCIe 3.0) and my new "Seagate FireCuda 520" (M.2 2280, M-Key, PCIe 4.0) work perfectly. According to the manufacturer, a PCIe 3.0 interface works internally, and PCIe 4.0 is downward compatible. That's why you have max. PCIe 3.0 speed here and also max. USB 3.1 Gen 2 speed.
I don't think so - they also have a different 'key' (cut out on the connector).
