Can this adapter be used to clone a PC internal HDD/SSD to an NVMe? The latter should then be installed in the PC directly on an M.2. Alternatives?

I don't quite understand the question: If you have an NVMe port in your PC, you can clone your HDD/SSD directly to it. You don't need the enclosure for that. However, you can clone any HDD/SSD there if it is connected as a USB drive.

Yes, that works. But the NVMe should provide enough space (GB).
