I wanted to install this HDD in my desktop PC, but my PC did not recognise it. I thought it was my PC, so I gave it to a colleague. However, it didn't work for him either. Isn't this HDD made for normal desktop PCs?

Every HDD with a SATA port (like the WD Red) is compatible with all PCs with a SATA port. Either the HDD is defective or you have not partitioned/formatted it. In Windows, the tool you need for this is called "Disk Management".
