Same here! It also works for me exactly as you described.
If you exchange it, it would be interesting to know if the same noise occurs again with the new one.
Thanks for the feedback!
Edit:
Currently it is OEM goods, but we fulfil the legal warranty and the remaining 3 years as long as there is no mechanical damage.

Are you sure you are looking at the same hard drive as yesterday? There are two versions (SATA and SAS) and the SAS still costs 583.-.

Does the WD Ultrastar DC HC550 (18 TB, 3.5", CMR) also click every 5 seconds when it is booted up?
It sounds like a drop of water dripping onto the bottom of an upturned plastic bucket.
You can still hear the clacking at a distance of 6 metres. I have tried them in 2 external housings. If you touch the external case, you can even feel the clack. When writing data, the read head noise can also be heard, but it is within the normal range as with other disks and much quieter than the "clack every 5 seconds" that also occurs during data writing in addition to the read head noise. It works, but a mechanical noise whose vibration can still be felt on the external housing sounds like a defect to me. When it is not in use, the clacking stops at some point (presumably hibernation), but as soon as I start reading or writing again and it starts up again (with a very loud rattle of about 3 seconds), the clacking every 5 seconds is also back.
I have been using it since September 2020 on an Intel-Asus PC with Windows 10, which I shut down almost daily when not in use. It runs flawlessly for data and video, although I have only tried up to max. 4k video. Furthermore, I have had 2 Seagate Iron Wolf Pro in a QNAP NAS in my office since February 2020. The WD Red are actually more suitable for NAS in continuous operation, but were not available in this size at the time. It was particularly important to me to install CMR and not SMR because many colleagues had problems with SMR.
