Ubiquiti USG: UniFi Security Gateway
Hello short question: We would like to combine a Swisscom setup with 5 access points from Ubiquiti. In order to have as few problems as possible, we would connect the telephone and the two TV boxes directly to the Swisscom router. The Ubiquiti USG would then be connected to another output of the Swisscom router, followed by the US-24-250W PoE switch and then 5 AP nano HD and 2-3 other devices. A great extension would of course be that when someone unplugs the TV box and attaches his PC, he cannot access the devices behind the USG. Does this make sense? Does it work like I imagine it would? I would be very grateful for any feedback. :-)
that's no problem. i have it exactly the same way because i don't want swisscom on my network.
swisscom router--usg-div.switches-apacpro
on the swisscom router 2 tv uhd tv boxes
connection router-usg: usg on dhcp everything standard, nothing adjusted
important: you need two different networks: so router-side default e.g. 192.168.1.0 your network: 10.0.0.0
I have operated the whole thing with a raspberry pi as a unifi network controller.
without extended setup it is clear that the "home functionalities" of SC cannot be used in the advertised environment. but I don't need it because I have a chromecast on the tv which is connected to the internal network and so I can also bring everything from the internal network to the tv.
good luck
Hello everyone, thank you very much!
Yes, that should actually work as you imagine it. I have a similar setup. I have activated the DMZ function on the SC router and assigned a fixed IP to the USG. This way I can use port-forwarding for my services behind the USG. I can only access my private LAN from the subnet between the USG and the SC router if I explicitly configure a rule for this on the USG.
