Would this RAM run on a MB that does not support XMP profiles but definitely does the 2933 MHz (other, simpler RAM)? Or does the XMP profile HAVE to be set in the BIOS?

XMP is not mandatory as far as I know. On the motherboard manufacturer's website you can usually find information about which RAM modules are supported. You can then search for this RAM using the manufacturer's number.
