As one who has done exactly such "lab measurements", I can confirm the answer above. From hill to hill across a valley, 10km might be possible. But the antennas have to be out in the open and see each other. In towns, however, it is already close to 1km. And if there is a hill or hilltop in between, it is probably already over after 500m. I think 6km is only possible on sight.
My experience is that it depends a lot on the environment, hills, trees and buildings make quite a difference. I think 10km only applies under "laboratory conditions" 😁
6km is realistic on more open terrain. If there is anything in between, it will be rather close.
