Which cable do I need to attach an external monitor, the USB 3.0 doesn't seem to be Thunderbolt !? and I haven't managed with the HDMI to Display Port either? The Compaq monitor has a display port and works fine with another laptop. Are there any drivers missing or ...?

This will not work via USB 3.0. HDMI-DP should work. Please check the drivers (graphics card) and the interfaces.
