What should I understand by the size specification 40mm?

(Fitbit Versa Lite says 34mm, which is the screen diagonal. Which also corresponds to a screen width of 24.075mm. The Versa 2 says the screen width is 25.07mm.... but that doesn't give me 40mm. Or am I calculating something wrong?)

Actually, it would still be important for me to know the outer dimensions of the housing. So that I can get an idea of the size of the case.

The outer dimensions of the case are exactly 40x40 mm. The dial is much smaller, around 24mm in diameter!

The 40 mm refers to the whole watch, i.e. with the "frame". The approx. 25 mm is then the "dial", i.e. the digital display....
