What is the maximum "edge" between rooms that the Roomba can go over?
Hello Skissor
Thank you for your question. Officially we are talking about 1.6cm, which the Roomba i3 can certainly exceed and there should be no problems, with higher thresholds it depends somewhat on the circumstances. At iRobot there is the possibility to test all current models in advance for free. This can ensure that the device meets expectations and whether there are problems with door thresholds. If this is the case, it is possible to place small ramps in front of the Roomba, as users in old flats have done. You can buy these in DIY stores and they work perfectly.
Please contact us directly and test the device of your choice free of charge for a fortnight. You can reach us at +41 62 746 06 74 or by e-mail at service@iRobotics.ch.
Best regards,
Your iRobot Team
iRobot Roomba can usually climb over door thresholds that are about 1.5 cm high. It depends on the Front Bumper, how high it is from the floor, which limits the climbing function, because as soon as a Front Bumper shakes, a hoover robot turns around, because this triggers the Front Bumper Sensor.
However, other manufacturers can do more, e.g. Roborock, Xiaomi and Dreame hoovers can also climb over 2 cm high door thresholds, again of course plus or minus a few mm, but the robot hoovers usually can't do more than 2.5 cm, because otherwise they also run the risk of getting stuck on objects (e.g. swing chair tubes).
