What is the exact difference between the LaCie Rugged USB-C (5TB) and the LaCie Rugged USB-C Thunderbolt (5TB)? What is the recommendation? The hard drive would be used as a back-up for RAW photos and also JPEG photos, so it won't be used daily, but about 1 time per week for a transfer of about 20-40GB per use. I would like to know which one can provide me with more security and also speed for this, despite the back-up use.

The difference between the two devices is the connection. If you have an older Mac with a Thunderbolt output, you need a Thunderbolt port. With a newer one, you need USB C. If you buy the wrong HD, you need an intermediate piece (in principle with no loss of speed).
