We put the machine back into operation this week. I'm confused by the fact that a "liquid detergent insert" is mentioned in the instructions but none is included. Can you simply pour liquid detergent into the left-hand main compartment of this model without an insert? It just flows through immediately so...

Yes! I pour the liquid directly into the bin on the left, no problem!
Yes of course you can use liquid detergent, but be careful not to use too much, start with very little, in a glass at most half a centimetre, and see if it foams over you can see it in the wash it has a lot of foam or not, love too little than too much
