I don't have a Surface Pro here.
I tested it with the Lenovo M10 10.1 inch in portrait mode.
Dimensions: 24.4cm x 15.3 with case and pen approx. 560g and it holds at any angle.

A possible drawback in portrait mode is when you type more heavily on the tablet, especially in the upper area of the touchscreen. It can happen that the tablet stand falls to the maximum angle. Then the tablet is at an angle of about 45 degrees to the table.
The tablet stand does not have a fixed lock, but an automatic grid lock. However, nothing happens in landscape format.

Since I mainly read in portrait format, it doesn't bother me that much.

Dimensions of the support surface of the holder approx. 11cm x 11cm.
