this is not the usb C port (thunderbolt 3) but the "square" thunderbolt port? how do i connect the ethernet cable to my thunderbolt 3 ports?

As far as I know, there is no LAN adapter from Apple for the TB 3 port.
I returned mine and ordered an adapter from Belkin.
