This is an annual subscription. Can the credit card then be deposited in the Microsoft account in order to pay the annual fees, or must the licence always be purchased manually via Digitec or a third-party portal?

Since you have to register with Microsoft for this product, you can also add a credit card to your account. This way, you can continue to pay by card after the product has expired.
