The price difference between DS216+II and DS216play is very striking. But if I want to have it at home, with two 4TB hard drives and Raid1, I don't see any big technical differences. Performance is almost the same, it also has usb3.0 etc....

The 216+ has a slightly faster CPU and minimally better data throughput, plus it has one more USB 2.0 and one more esata port than the Play. If you don't have any special requirements and really only need the thing as a NAS, you can probably save the money for the 216+.
