Sunrise just told me on the phone that I can't use this router with my second SIM card. They would throttle down the SIM card directly. Is that really the case or are they just telling me that to get me to buy their We Connect Wifi?

Yes, that is the case and not only throttling, but it simply would not work. Sunrise also makes these distinctions between the device types (notebook, tablet, clock, router) clearly visible.
