So far a MacAir child, I would like to switch. So to all those with experience of switching: 1. can everything be migrated from MacAir to e.g. Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 via an external backup hard drive? 2. does a certain software have to be purchased and installed on the Lenovo beforehand? 3. is an Office/Word-like programme already on it? 4.if Ubuntu is installed: (How) does a migration then work? What should I pay attention to? Thank you!
Hi! I can only answer one of your questions. Microsoft Office is pre-installed, but it doesn't work unless you buy a (in my opinion quite expensive) annual licence. That's why I now use Open Office and have uninstalled Microsoft Office. That's how it works.
Regarding question 4: Find out beforehand whether the programmes you need are also available on Ubuntu, and if not, whether there is a good alternative. For almost all applications this is not a big problem, but if you are very dependent on e.g. Adobe Photoshop (which is not readily available on Ubuntu), then some prior research will save you frustration later. Documents, photos, files of any kind you want to keep can simply be copied to the desired folder after installing Ubuntu, either from an external hard drive or from the old computer.
