Oculus belongs to Facebook,because Oculus and Facebook accounts are merged; data collected by VR headsets should be very valuable for advertisers, after all, the headset knows when you flinch, where you look and for how long, and what you instinctively run towards. Germany has banned this and Facebook is trying to stop the sale in Germany.
You can set up a fake account, but Facebook forbids this and would block your account if Facebook noticed. This would render the device unusable.

In this day and age it is quite normal to live in a glass house, but it is not just Facebook, I don't know of any platform where you can have fun without actually registering, whether it is Sony, Microsoft or Apple, registration is required everywhere. So I worry less about it and have more time for important things. At least that's my opinion.

Answer

The glasses don't become unusable... You can still connect them to your computer even after 2023 and if you deepreboot them you can log in with another Facebook account.
