Question about Seasonic 12VHPWR adapter cable
Quick question. The original Nivida cable has three PCIe connectors at the end. Here, with the adapter, there are only two. Does that matter and does it work the same or is there something to consider? :)
As sophoheilip said, it's no problem because Seasonic specifies up to 600W. However, the power supply must also deliver 300W per 8-PIN PCIe, Seasonic power supplies can probably do that. My 4090 has already drawn 450W via the cable without any problems (3DMARK TimeSpy), there was always at least 12.2V at the connector of the graphics card (power supply Seasonic Prime TX-850).
However, the "official PCIe specification" is "only" 150W for an 8-PIN connector. Therefore, 450W graphics cards usually have an adapter with 3 8-pin PCIe connectors, 600W graphics cards (overclocked 4090s like ASUS STRIX) have adapters with 4 8-pin connectors.
Since the cable is plugged directly into the power supply and is specified by Seasonic for up to 600W (cable quality, cross-section and connector quality), this is no problem.
We run an RTX4080 with a max. peak power at 4K of around 300W.
