On the side picture, the TV looks extremely thick - according to the LG homepage, the model should be a lot thinner - what is correct here?

Could you perhaps provide the link from the manufacturer's site? Perhaps you are confusing this model "49UH603V" with a similar model. You can compare the width with the 56.7mm given here.
