Question about WD Red Pro

My hard drives are extremely loud. I have my NAS in a cupboard, but I can hear it through the whole flat when I copy something over. Is this normal or are my hard drives faulty? Thank you!

It's the same at home... so much so that I even turn off my SIN at night!

Thanks for the feedback. It's not the damping. Underlay is good. It is certainly the movement of the reading head that is so loud. And really audible through a closed door. I found a few reports about it on the Internet. So I'm not the only one with this problem. So from my point of view, the disc is only recommended for people where noise is not an issue.

The cupboard might amplify the noise. Try putting the NAS on a firm surface like a concrete floor to see if that reduces vibration and noise.

Yes, when the head is repositioned to a new track it is louder than other hard drives.
You can carry out a defragmentation so that the head should have to reposition itself less and you will have much less noise.

The 18TB discs are a little louder, but the fact that they can also be heard in the cabinet is not so good.
Of course, the discs are a little louder when a copy operation is in progress.
It's also possible that the hard drive bays vibrate because all of today's NAS, even the really expensive TVS-h1688X, are made of plastic.
This was also the case for me and I pushed a 15mm long cardboard between the slots where they vibrate. Now it's quiet.
I also agree with what Palindrom said.

The WD Red Pro are certainly louder than the Red Plus, for example. The Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) in almost every NAS can be used to check whether there is a defect. Otherwise, I would recommend a damping mat or similar and perhaps also check whether "the NAS in the cabinet" is not getting too hot.
