MSI X570 Godlike + AMD 3950X = <3 It should already go to 4.7 GHz - 5.0 GHz ^_^, or what do you think?

Helpful answer

It is probably feasible, but only with the best boards, i.e. very good VRMs and very good cooling. That's why I also think that some boards are very expensive. AMD itself talks about "precision boost", which continues to clock itself as long as there is still air, juice and cooling available. The connection between quality MOBO and overclock is not stated directly anywhere, but that's probably what it will boil down to imho.

You will not reach the 4.7 - 5.0 GHz. Unless you cool with liquid nitrogen.
Many tech youtubers who have had access to the CPUs for some time are of the same opinion.
Not a single CPU has been sighted that has even reached the stated maximum frequency on a top mainboard.
In contrast to the old generations, the specified turbo frequency can only be achieved on one core. On all cores it would only be achievable with cooling methods that are not intended for long-term operation. In other words, liquid nitrogen.

However, due to the greatly increased IPC performance, 4.5 GHz on this CPU is roughly equivalent to 5 GHz on the second generation Ryzen CPUs. So the maximum possible GHz does not really increase in this generation, but changes in the architecture make the difference here. The GHz of a processor is only one of many indicators that speak for its performance.

For detailed information on this, I can recommend the YouTube channel "der8auer". There you will get this information explained in detail.

If MSI, then GODLIKE, but would not recommend any other of you for 3950X.

In general, the VRM solution on MSI board is very solid for overclocking. They have only one problem. According to many test you can't cool the VRM enough. Gigabyte and especially ASUS perform better. derbauer has a great video here where he tests all boards and simulates a TDP of a 3950X on a 3900X (220Watt).
Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch

Where all MSI boards except the GODLIKE fall off, you get more money with ASUS or Gigabyte if you want to run OC. Especially boards like the ASUS TUF X570 or the ASUS Strix cool the VRM very well, just like the GODLIKE, for much less money.

Maybe this can help you with your decision.

Gigabyte X570 AORUS XTREME (AM4, AMD X570, E-ATX)
or
MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE (AM4, AMD X570, E-ATX)

I think I'll go with the Godlike, also because I switched from a Gigabyte Xtreme to the Godlike with the Z390 platform and can run higher and more stable clocks^^
