I've been thinking about buying a Google Home mini for a long time now. However, I keep thinking that as a Swiss person, it must be very strange to have to talk to it in written German or even English. Any experiences?
I use Assistant on my smartphone in English.
Since then, my morning routine has consisted of me saying "OK Google, good morning".
The Assistant then tells me the weather and my calendar entries and then plays the latest news.
At first it took a bit of getting used to (just saying "OK Google" into the blue), but you soon get used to it.
google home mini has the best voice recognition. You can already use google Assistant partially in the Chrome browser for searching on the desktop. Even complex sentences are understood. Of course you need a micro, better a headset. You don't need anything with the google home mini, it understands in the room. The voice in the Chrome Browser is the same as in the mini. Install it in the Chrome Browser and practice already :)
I bought the first Google Home speaker when I was in America. At that time, German was not yet available. A few days ago, I also bought the Mini here at Digitec. Since the Home takes over the language setting from the phone, I had to change my phone from British English to American English (British was not yet available either). If the phone is on a language that Home does not support, the installation does not work. Although German is available in the meantime, both Home speakers still run in English for me. The reason is that I don't want to change my phone to German. However, if the languages could be set independently, I would set the Home to German. The reason for this is that it is impossible to call place names without using the official English name. For example, I can ask what the traffic situation is like to Lucerne or Zurich, but not to smaller places.
Otherwise, I really like Google Home. Since all the lamps in the house are equipped with Philips Hue, I can control them with the Home, which I do very often. A function that I also use frequently is switching the TV on and off via Logitech Harmony.
By the way, the voice recognition is incredibly good. Even with background noise at some distance and my Swiss accent, it almost always understands the commands perfectly.
