I am pretty sure that is actually is compatible. The form factor is standart 2.5", the connector is SATA standart and it supports the 6GBit/s SATA3 specs. Infering from other products the compatibility with WIn or Linux stems from the avaliability of the support software provided by Seagate. I would recommend (if possible), to put the ssd in a PC to update the firmware and then put it in a Macbook Pro. That said I have to admit that I guessed you are actually talking of the older Macbook Pros with unibody and optical drive. Only those can have the 2.5" formfactor. What those machines bring to the table though is a weak spot in the HDD flex cable to the motherboard. Aside the fact that it needs proper dissasembly not to damage the cable, it is prone to fail when the drive would pull much amps. Especially enterprise SSD of yore would regularly kill off flex cables. Problem is, you don't find these specs pretty much anywhere. So you'd have to roll the dice here. Formatwise the drive gives a rats ass what you put on it. Be it MBR or GUID, be it Fat32, NTFS, ext3 or 4, HFS+ or APSF. And resist the temptation to put the old HDD in a carrier that sits in the optical drive bay. Those bays are never ever dampened and your HDD will die within a few months. Since the optical drive ATA is very often only a SATA2 (3 GBit/s), it's not smart to put the SSD there. So dump the HDD altogether. Good Luck.
