Is this macBook up to date (in terms of chip/processor etc.) or do you get newer/improved components directly from Apple?

This notebook may be new as far as the Apple brand is concerned.
However, the hardware is not up to date, i.e. :

- The processor is from the 5th generation, but in the meantime the 6th generation is available (there is already talk of the 7th generation).
- The RAM is DDR3, but at the moment DDR4 RAM is already available.
- The latest Bluetooth version is Bluetooth 4.2.

Apple products are designated by year, quarter or generation. Each product is thus defined with the corresponding components. These are usually available in 2 to 3 versions/CPU's per model and different memory sizes. Upgrades are only possible to a limited extent with Apple products, especially the CPU. RAM and SSD upgrades are probably the only components that can be replaced by private users themselves.

This is an Apple MacBook Air 13.3" (Early 2015) and is currently the current model.

A new Macbook Air is currently rumoured for late 2016 or early 2017.

The question is always, what do I want to do with it? For the price, it's a great laptop with good components. But if you need to render film or edit a lot of photos, I would choose a more expensive configuration.
