Is this hard disk also suitable for server operation ? It is installed in an HP ProLiant G7. Serves there as storage for VMs

Helpful answer

I have 2 WD RED 2.5" 1TBs installed in a DL380 G7 in RAID1 on a p410i controller. The server fans do not turn louder with this hard disk. I have not tested the hard drive speed, it is used as a backup.
With the HGST 1TB 7.2k 2.5" the fans were much louder.

Hello, no I would not recommend using WD Red in a server. These are created specifically for NAS environments to achieve the best performance there (few accesses, longer operations). The WD RED does run, but a WD RE e.g. WD1004FBYZ would have a much better performance! With 2.5 inch e.g. Seagate ST1000NX0313 which is not available here. Focus con Digitec is also on end user and less from server and enterprise computing...many important Prdoukte are missing that I would like to use in a server. You can also put a NAS HDD into a PC when it is in action. Good research is mandatory if you don't want to buy products that only have 2/3 of the performance.
