Is there really no sapphire crystal? That can't be true in this price segment? Unbelievable - a reason not to buy an Apple Watch.

The question is older, but I would still like to give you an answer here, even if others see this:

1. the stainless steel versions ALWAYS have a sapphire crystal.

2. you have to realise, however, that it is not the same robustness of the glass that is present in a Casio G Shock, for example. Their sapphire glasses are almost indestructible. I have a total of 3 stainless steel Apple Watches and none of them have any real scratches in the glass. However, you have to be very careful with the Milanaise strap, as it can still scratch the case and/or leave fine micro-scratches on the sapphire glass. (Due to the sharp stainless steel edges)
It is actually logical that this glass is more susceptible in the end, as it is somewhat rounded at the edges and is therefore more susceptible in these areas. The normal Ion X glass, however, is not at all comparable; you immediately get a deep scratch in it as soon as you lightly bump into it.
